Sukoon Nilaya Palliative Care Centre
The King George V Memorial Trust, a public charitable trust founded in 1938 has been in the forefront of providing free compassionate care to the underprivileged and disabled members of our society.
The Sukoon Nilaya Palliative Care Centre of the King George V Memorial Trust was started during the pandemic in 2021. The center is the first of its kind in Maharashtra, providing free palliative care to patients suffering from diseases other than cancer. They have established it as a go-to place for all aspects of palliative care across all medical specialties. The model of care provided is holistic, addressing the needs of patients and empowering caregivers to deliver appropriate care when the patient transitions home. Every aspect of treatment is completely free. They now intend to expand their facilities and fine-tune our objectives.
The Dinesh Vyas Trust has provided a generous donation that will help us increase the number of palliative care beds from 25 to 50 in a phased manner. It will also help us refurbish our existing infirmary wards. The Mahadevia family has made a substantial donation, which will be used to replace the entire infirmary roof that is 85 years old. The Dainik Bhaskar group has sponsored a solar panel unit, ensuring that the power needs of the entire campus are taken care of. This aligns with our goal of becoming a “green” facility.
The foundation stone for these projects was laid by the Hon’ble Governor Dr. C. P. Radhakrishnan at a ceremony to be held on 18th January 2025 at 4:30 PM at the King George V campus in the presence of the Municipal Commissioner Mr. Bhushan Gagrani, the Add Municipal Commissioner (Health) Dr. Vipin Sharma, the Deans of all the Medical Colleges in Mumbai, the Executive Health Officer of the BMC and many other dignitaries and luminaries.
They have given a very high priority to upskill the medical and paramedical cadre by offering training courses in palliative care. The courses are affiliated to the MUHS and the SNDT University. This will ensure that the entire gamut of palliative care facilities will be available under one roof. We will be a Centre of Excellence.
The Trust appeal’s to the citizens of Mumbai to take advantage of this top rated, completely free of cost centre. We also appeal to civil society and corporate India to open their purse strings and donate generously to our cause.
