My Environment, My Responsibility – by students of Walsingham School

Education is not only about books and grades; it is also about nurturing responsible citizens towards their environment. Keeping this in mind, Walsingham House School educated the students about preserving the environment through a meaningful project titled ‘My Environment, My Responsibility’ which was integrated across all subjects and activities, teaching students to care for the environment.
This was initiated by learning the four golden words that can save our planet – Refuse,Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Children became little eco-heroes! Old things that were usually thrown away were given a new life. Used plastic cans were turned into peculiar planters. Old school uniforms were reused as costumes in the play which they performed in school. Worn-out T-shirts were recycled into no sew colourful bags and soft cushions. Every item told a story of care, imagination, and responsibility.
Instead of only reading about the environment in books, they lived the lesson through actions. Children participated in a beach clean-up drive, plantation activity in the school garden, e-waste collection and milk carton recycling. Simultaneously, there were many workshops and talks conducted in the school by various organisations.
The highlight of the project finale ‘My Environment, My Responsibility’ was when children showed that Mother Earth is in danger because of pollution,creation of waste, and careless behaviour of human beings. The skit also gave hope by reminding everyone that we can still protect her, by changing our habits, following sustainable development goals and caring for nature. The message was clear and thought- provoking.
All the wonderful creations made by the children were beautifully displayed for parents to see. The display was colourful, thoughtful, and inspiring. Visitors were amazed to see how they made treasure out of trash.
This project has taught them that small steps can make a big difference. When children learn to care for the environment at a young age, they grow into responsible citizens of tomorrow.
