Unearthing the Past: SRCC Children Discover Stone Age Tools at Trunk Museum
On 18th September and 25th September, around 35 eager learners from the SRCC Citi Academy for Skills and Education (CASE) stepped back thousands of years in time with a fascinating Trunk museum session arranged by CSMVS Museum, which houses more than 70,000 artifacts from India’s rich heritage. The sessions were specially planned to complement the SSC History curriculum, where Stone Age tools form an important chapter, giving children a real-life experience of history beyond textbooks.
Guided by museum experts, the children explored an extraordinary collection of prehistoric tools—hand axes, scrapers, and blades—carefully crafted from stone by early humans. The session highlighted how these ancient implements, used for hunting, cutting, and building, were the foundation of human innovation. To spark their curiosity, the educators compared these primitive stone tools with the modern gadgets we use today, showing how human ingenuity has evolved over thousands of years.
The interactive storytelling brought India’s Stone Age sites to life, revealing key regions such as Bhimbetka in Madhya Pradesh, Hunsgi in Karnataka, and Belan Valley in Uttar Pradesh, where similar tools and cave paintings have been unearthed. Children listened with wide-eyed wonder as they learned how these artifacts tell stories of survival, adaptation, and creativity. Adding a splash of creativity, the museum concluded the visit with a colouring activity, encouraging the young historians to recreate Stone Age scenes and tools from their imagination.
Our children also participated in a unique Trunk Museum activity that brought the Harappan Civilization alive through a hands-on learning experience. They explored replicas and models of Harappan artifacts such as pottery, seals, beads, toys, and tools. The interactive session helped the children understand the lifestyle, trade, urban planning, and cultural practices of one of the world’s earliest civilizations. This engaging, tactile approach not only enriched their knowledge but also sparked curiosity and appreciation for India’s ancient heritage.
This educational excursion proved that history is just not about memorizing dates- it is about touching the past. By holding the echoes of ancient life in their hands, the CASE children gained a lasting appreciation for human progress, proving once again that the best learning happens when curiosity meets experience.
