The running community of South Mumbai, in association with the Mumbai Ultra Runners and Tata Memorial Hospital, organized a highly successful 12-hour blood donation drive on August 18, 2024, at the Priyadarshini Park in our neighbourhood. The event was a testament to the collective spirit of the city’s running enthusiasts who came together for a noble cause.
The drive was spearheaded by runners from Endurance Revolution and Savio Stars, who worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success. With the vital support of blood banks from Sir HN Reliance Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital, the event saw an overwhelming response from participants.
The camp had 100 registrations for blood donation, out of which 26 were rejected and 74 were successful donations.
Similar camps were organised at 5 different locations of Mumbai on the same day. At Shivaji Park – Dadar, PDP- Nepean Sea Road, Borivili National Park, Thane and Navi Mumbai. All organised by running groups of those respective locations.
The blood collected during the drive will be used to support paediatric cancer patients and those suffering from thalassemia, ensuring that these vulnerable groups receive the lifesaving treatment they need.
This initiative highlights the commitment of the South Mumbai running community not just to fitness, but also to giving back to society. The organizers express their heartfelt gratitude to all the donors, volunteers, and medical staff and Rotary Club of Nariman Point who contributed to this impactful event.
MPs Milind Deora and Shrikant Shinde, Susieben Shah, Subhash Desai, happened to visit the camp as they were at PDP for the tree plantation.
Blood is essential for life-saving procedures and treatments, including transfusions, which replace blood lost due to injury or surgery. Blood is also needed for patients with disorders that prevent them from producing blood properly. Maintaining a stable blood supply, blood donations help keep the nation’s blood supply stable.
We thank the runners who organised this camp and also the donors who supported this drive. Well done runners, keep going!
