Rotary Club of Bombay Cuffe Parade & Friends of Tribal Society (FTS)

Rotary Club of Bombay Cuffe Parade and Friends of Tribal Society, Mumbai (FTS) recently completed a project where they distributed 200 water wheel drums, crucial tool for transporting water, to the villages of Dharanpada, Rampur (Dhr), Jawhar & Palghar.

The main Sponsors of this project are: Shri Jitendra Bhai Bhansali, Smt. Sarita JI Manshingka, Smt. Nilima Yogesh Madavani (USA) and Kanu bhai Parikh (USA). These drums, lifelines for the villagers, will not only signicantly ease the burden of collecting water, particularly for women and children, but also bring hope and relief to their daily lives.

FTS, a NGO, has unwaveringly served the community since 1989. It runs an impressive 78,000 schools across India, with 2.04 million children enrolled. This scale of operation demonstrates the significant impact FTS has on the education sector.

FTS runs the One Teacher School (OTS), also known as Ekal Vidyalaya, which imparts informal primary education to children between 6 and 14. If their work inspires you and you want to know more about the activities of FTS, or if you wish to contribute in any way, please feel free to contact Ashok Bhansali at cell 9820045480 with your enquiries without any hesitation.

June 2024

The Water Wheel Scheme of this Club has altered the life of the locals in this Tribal region. Over 4000 water wheels have been distributed, providing great relief by decreasing the need of carrying water from faraway sources. This has significantly improved the villagers’ everyday life, something that would not have been possible without the Club’s support. On June 15, 2024, 335 water wheels, each with a 45-litre capacity, were distributed. The wheels were purchased from Nilkamal Limited in Daman at a discount for Rotary.

This year, Rtn. Ashok Bhansali, of this Club and a member of the Friends of Tribals Society (Mumbai Chapter), was instrumental in arranging for 335 water wheels, thanks to the invaluable support of Mr Jitubhai Bhansali, a patron member of the Friends of Tribals Society (Mumbai Chapter), and a generous donor, Suchita Nanavati.

The event also included a tree planting activity at Pimpalpada in the presence of Rtn. Tarun Gadia, President of the Rotary Club of Mumbai Cuffe Parade, Rtn. Ashok Bhansali, and Rtn. Shrigopal Pachisia, Vice President of the Friends of Tribals Society (Mumbai Chapter), where trees such as mangoes, cashew nuts, sapodilla (chikoo), and black currant (fanas) were planted.
