Rajesh Thakkar’s Karate Academy’s (RTKA) 44th Karate Championship
Celebrating 45 Years of Excellence, Rajesh Thakkar’s Karate Academy (RTKA) proudly announces its 44th Karate Championship, to be held at the iconic PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Marine Drive, Mumbai, on February 1st and 2nd, 2025.The Championship will be held in association with the P.J. Hindu Gymkhana.
This significant event also marks the 45th anniversary of RTKA India, celebrating decades of unwavering commitment to martial arts excellence. The championship is set to witness the participation of over 300 students from RTKA dojos across South Mumbai, Central and Western suburbs, and Bhavnagar.
The competition will span five dynamic categories: 1. Kihon (Basics): Perfecting foundational techniques. Individual Kata: Displaying the structured art of Karate. 2. Group Kata: Showcasing synchronised teamwork and precision in Karate forms. 3. Shadow Shiai: Simulated combat against imaginary opponents. 4. Shiai Kumite (Sports Combat): Competitive sparring.
One of the unique aspects of this championship is a special format innovated by Sensei Rajesh Thakkar, demonstrating his creative approach to Karate competitions. This innovation is a testament to Sensei Thakkar’s visionary leadership, supported by over 45 years of teaching and mentoring as a distinguished 7th Degree Black Belt.
Adding to the grandeur of the event is an esteemed lineup of guests who will grace the occasion: 1. Mr. Kaneko Toshihiro, Deputy Consulate General of Japan, Mumbai. 2. The 86th Karate-Do Camp, hosted by Rajesh Thakkar’s Karate Academy (RTKA) from December 26th to 30th, 2024, at the Zara’s Resorts, Khandala, concluded on an exceptional note. The camp was co-hosted by Sensei Kaivan Fatakia, Go Dan, Goju Kai Karate, along with his team of instructors and students. Led by the esteemed Sensei Rajesh Thakkar, a 7th Degree Black Belt, the camp brought together 150 Karate enthusiasts from Mumbai and Bhavnagar. Supporting him were accomplished instructors Sensei Jayesh Somaiya, Sensei Bahadur Raval, Sensei Ashfaq Khatri, and Sensei Hersh Sayta, who ensured a comprehensive and enriching training experience.
The camp was further elevated by the presence of Sensei Salludin Ansari, President of the Karate Association of Maharashtra (KAM), and Sensei Sandeep Gade, Hon. Secretary of KAM. Others who graced the camp with their presence included Mr. Ayaz Moulvi, owner of Zara’s Resorts, whose support and hospitality greatly contributed to the camp’s success, and Mr. Vivek Kothari, an industrialist, karate enthusiast, and marathon runner.
The carefully crafted curriculum covered a wide range of Karate techniques, including: Kihon (Basics): Mastering foundational techniques. Kata (Form) – Learning structured sequences to embody the essence of Karate. Bunkai (Application of Kata) – Understanding practical applications of movements. Kumite (One-Step Sparring) – Developing precision and controlled sparring skills. Makiwara (Bagwork) – Strengthening and improving accuracy. Shiai Kumite (Sports Karate) – Enhancing competitive techniques.
The camp left participants not only with refined Karate skills but also with a sense of personal growth and camaraderie. RTKA’s 86th Karate-Do Camp has once again reinforced the academy’s dedication to preserving the art of Karate and fostering excellence among its students.
