Martha Graham has so rightly quoted that dance is the hidden language of the soul! This is what I truly witnessed at The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival at Cross Maidan. Traditional folk dance forms from diverse regions of India were performed by the dancers of Rhydhun Academy. The dancers were vibrant and expressive. Their energy was infectious as they displayed great team work on stage. Each dance featured vibrant costumes. The backdrop & the music captivated the spectators attention & this cultural extravaganza was a sheer delight to watch! Followed by a flawless fluid FLAMENCO performance by the extremely talented Bettina Castano. She enthralled the audience with her mesmerizing dance moves, using props like castanets, fans & marton scarfs. This was just a glimpse of a few of the dynamic dance performances that evening. The transition from evening to night at the venue made this particular event even more delightful to watch (with the superb light effects on stage). Spectators thronged the venue in huge numbers & it was a delight to see that not a single one looked disappointed. Several of them captured moments & movements in their cameras, giving one a feeling that this can’t be only watched once! A thunderous round of applause by the audience motivated the dancers to give their best. What I witnessed was an elegant blend of art, movements, emotions, music, lights and creativity, & I am glad I didn’t miss this at KGAF!
