Sensei Netrabahadur Rawal (5th Degree Black Belt)
42 Years of Dedication, Learning, and Inspiring Through Karate.
My journey in Karate began in August 1983 under the guidance of Sensei Rajesh Thakkar – a decision that transformed my life forever. What started as a desire to learn martial arts soon became a lifelong passion, shaping my character, values, and purpose.
Today, at the age of 62, after more than four decades in Karate, I continue to teach with the same enthusiasm while remaining a dedicated student of the art. Karate has been much more than a martial art for me; it has been a way of life.
The path has not always been easy. There were challenges, sacrifices, and moments that tested my determination. However, Karate taught me discipline, resilience, patience, and the importance of perseverance. Every obstacle became an opportunity to grow stronger – both physically and mentally.
I am deeply grateful to my mentors, Kyoshi Sensei Rajesh Thakkar and Sensei Jayesh Somaiya, whose guidance, knowledge, and unwavering belief in their students played a significant role in my development. Through their teachings, I learned that Karate is not merely about techniques or self-defense; it is about building character, integrity, humility, and respect.
One of the most significant turning points in my Karate journey came when I was a junior Green Belt. Sensei Jayesh Somaiya recognized my potential and encouraged me to begin teaching Karate. His trust and motivation gave me confidence at a young age and set me on the path of becoming an instructor.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching and mentoring countless students at Andheri Gymkhana Dojo, St. Arnold’s School, Andheri, and Balkan Ji Bari, Ghatkopar. Guiding them through Karate, instilling the spirit of Budo, and witnessing their growth in confidence, discipline, and self-belief has been one of the greatest rewards of my life.
Throughout my Karate career, I have been fortunate to receive numerous awards and recognitions. Yet, nothing gives me greater happiness than seeing my students succeed.
I feel especially blessed that both of my children are part of my Karate family and have earned their Black Belts. I am proud to see them carry forward the values, principles, and beliefs that Karate has instilled in me throughout my life.
“The day we stop learning is the day we stop growing. Karate has taught me to remain a student for life.”
