‘Malhar Ke Prakaar’ a mucsic concert was organised by The Indian Music Group on Saturday, 24th of August, 2024 evening at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. “Malhar” means rain and this concert had performances in various renditions of the Raag Malhar. The concert was in two sessions.
The first session was of Amaan Mohammed performing Hindustani Classical vocals. Amaan Mohammed, along with Fareed Hassan, is also the original singer of the famous song “Garaj Garaj”, composed in Raag Megh Malhar from the Amazon Prime Video series “Bandish Bandits”. The second session of the program was of a Sarangi recital by Sabir Khan, son of Sarangi maestro Ustad Sultan Khan. Two of St. Xavier’s College undergraduate students, Hiya Kilam and Sakshi Lokare accompanied Mohammed Aman Khan in his performance on the Tanpura. The event was free for the public.
The Indian Music Group was founded in 1973 by music-loving students of St. Xavier’s College, under the guidance the great Ustad Alla Rakha Khan Ji. Indian Music Group, fondly known as ‘IMG’, operates as a student-running organisation for the past 50 years at the national level, and invites artists from all over the nation to perform at various concerts throughout the year! Over the past 50 years of IMG, it has had the honour to host performances by Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Smt. Gangu bai Hungal, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt. Ramnarayan, Smt. Subbu Laksmi, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Smt. Kishori Amonkar, Begum Parveen Sultana, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Ajay Chakraborty, Smt. Kaushiki Chakraborty and many such maestros.
