How many times have you said or thought this when you have been asked to do art as an adult? As children we are more carefree, but as we grow older we are more concerned about how others judge us. Somewhere along the way we forgot to have fun. We forget to enjoy the small things in life. It’s all about how we are perceived socially by our friends that we have made now (as adults).
Depression, or feeling low, is very real in today’s chaotic, demanding world. Once the kids or grandkids have grown up, a sense of gloom takes over, especially if you have spent most of your time raising them. Whether it’s stress at work or family issues, the need to do something productive with one’s life becomes real.
One tends to underestimate the power of art. Through therapeutic art, creating art becomes a way to enhance one’s mental and emotional well-being. You don’t have to worry about your artistic skills. It is a creative journey with various mediums and forms of art like drawing and painting.
Therapeutic art has been known to help with dementia. Art helps keep the brain stimulated. It also helps curb depression and feeling of loneliness. It definitely helps reduce anxiety and stress. There is no gender for creating art; neither is there an age bracket. As adults or senior citizens, we all carry the burdens and stress of everyday life.
What better way to meet with a bunch of friends reminiscing about the good old college days or making plans for future travels with children or grandkids? An art party over a cup of coffee or tea or a glass of wine. Or simply just giving time to yourself without the stress of office or housework.
So give yourself an hour, at least once a week. Express yourself either by painting or drawing mandalas or just making basic lines and shapes. You have so much more to give because what you make from your heart will always be a masterpiece.
So be kind to yourself. Paint your sadness, anger, or pain away.
Fix your heART with some magic.
Give it a try; you won’t regret it.
