Join us for “A Celebration of Nature!”, said the poster and what a delightful one, it proved to be! As part of our endeavour for the ‘Save Hanging Garden’ campaign, we hosted a nature trail in the Hanging Garden, Shantivan, and its neighbouring woods. This walk, held on Sunday, 14 January, coincided with Makar Sankranti, and was led by Katie Bagli, an award-winning children’s writer and nature lover. The walk had a merry mix of adults as well as children, and it was very fulfilling to see them all taking great interest in the wealth of flora-fauna in their midst. Katie, with her vast bank of knowledge of the natural environment, enthralled the group by talking about the different species and features of the trees, butterflies, plant and insect life, found in the gardens. She also read stories from her books which were a source of much joy for the children and adults alike. We ended the one and a half hour trail by exchanging notes on our own experiences of being in open spaces, and the role they play in enhancing our quality of life.
